- the+adj.表示具有该形容词特征的一类人时，谓语动词一般用复数。
e,g,:
The old（全国的老人） have been taken good care of/treated well in this country.
The sick（事故中的伤员/者） have been cured and the lost（事故中的失踪人员） have been found in the accident.
但是，如果the+adj.表示具有该形容词特征的一类事或物，则谓语动词用单数。
e.g.:
The new and the progressive（新事物和激进的事物） always wins over the old and the obsolete（陈腐的事物和过时的事物）.
另外，当the+adj.表示具有该形容词特征的具体的一个个体时，谓语动词也用单数。
e.g.:
The accused was convicted guilty.（被告/被起诉的那个人被判有罪。）
