The People’s Bank of China has announced to raise the rate of deposit reserve by 0.5% as of August 15. This is the sixth time this year and ninth time since 2006 for the Central Bank to raise deposit reserve rate.
此次上调存款准备金率后，普通存款类金融机构将执行12%的存款准备金率标准。央行称，此举旨在加强银行体系流动性管理，抑制货币信贷过快增长。
After the raise, the deposit reserve rate of 12% shall apply to common deposit financial institutions. According to the Central Bank, the purpose of this action is to intensify banking system liquidity management and rein in overheating growth of currency credit.
据悉，金融机构必须将存款的一部分缴存在中央银行，作为存款准备金；存款准备金占金融机构存款总额的比例则为存款准备金率。当央行上调存款准备金率时，金融机构可用于贷款的资金减少，社会的贷款总量和货币供应量也相应减少；反之，社会的贷款总量和货币供应量将相应增加。
It is reported that financial institution shall submit a certain proportion of the total deposit to the Central Bank as the deposit reserve; the percentage the deposit reserve make up is the deposit reserve rate. When such rate is raised by the Central Bank, the total amount of capital available for loan will become less and the total amount of loan and currency supply in the society will drop accordingly; on the contrary, if such rate is lowered, the total amount of loan and currency supply in the society will increase.
