- 限定词一共分五类：冠词the, an, a、形容性物主代词my your her his its our their、指示代词this， that，those，these，不定代词some，any,most, many, much...等、名词所有格Tom's, John's,...等。以上这些词中在一个限定词短语中一般只能用一种，不能同时使用两种（不定代词做形容词时除外），例如：不能说my this bike, the my bike, a Tom's bike等。限定词加上名词就是限定词短语。如：my name, this desk, any other answers, an apple, Tom's book等等都是。
英语的名词前要求有限定词，这一点和汉语不同，特别是可数名词的单数前必须有限定词，没有的话就是一个语言错误，如：I'm a student.不能说：I'm student。
