- (1)特指某(些)人或物,常用于受到限制性定语修饰的名词前.如:
Give me the blue book.
(2)指说话人和听话人都熟悉的人或事物．如：
Open the door,please.
(3)指上文已提到过的人或事物．如：
He had a son and a daughter.The son is a university student.The daughter is a worker.
(4)表示世界上独一无二的事物或表示方位，方向等位置关系．如：
The sun rises in the east.
(5)用在乐器名词前或某些地理名词前．如：
play the piano;the West Lake
(6)与某些形容词连用，使形容词名词化，表示某一类人或者事物，如：
the poor（穷人）,the rich（富人）
